1. Basic Definitions and standards

Definition: Cat6 U/UTP is an acronym for Category 6 Unshielded Twisted Pair. It is an upgraded version of the CAT5e network cable with higher performance standards.

Standard: Cat6 U/UTP complies with international standards such as TIA/EIA-568-B.2-1, which specify the requirements for the physical and electrical characteristics of cables as well as transmission performance.

2. Physical characteristics

Conductor: 23AWG (US wire gauge) solid core bare copper is usually used as conductor, with good electrical conductivity and tensile strength.

Insulation: The conductor is wrapped with insulating materials such as polyethylene (PE) to prevent current leakage and short circuit, while protecting the conductor from the external environment.

Stranding: Four pairs of twisted pairs are twisted together in a specific way to form the core part of the cable. This stranding design helps reduce electromagnetic interference (EMI) and crosstalk, and improves the stability of signal transmission.

Sheath: The exterior of the cable is covered with a sheath material such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC), low-smoke halogen-free (LSZH), or polyethylene (PE) to protect the cable from physical damage and chemical corrosion.

3. Electrical characteristics

Transmission rate: Cat6 U/UTP can support transmission speeds of up to 10Gbps, meeting the needs of modern networks for high-speed transmission.

Transmission distance: According to the standard, the transmission distance of Cat6 U/UTP is usually not more than 100 meters. In short distance, higher transmission speed can be achieved; However, when transmitting over long distances, the signal may suffer a certain degree of attenuation.

Frequency range: Support up to 250MHz frequency range, 50MHz higher than Cat5e network cable, making high-speed data transmission more stable and reliable.
