4-core armored cable is a multi-core power or control cable with a layer of steel wire or steel strip armor on the outside, mainly used to provide strong compressive and tensile strength for underground direct burial, outdoor or situations requiring additional mechanical protection.

Armour Type and Protection Level
The armour provides mechanical protection.
Steel Tape Armour (common in YJV22) – two layers of steel tape helically wound. Provides mainly crush resistance. Suitable for direct burial or areas with heavy machinery.
Steel Wire Armour (SWA) – one or more layers of steel wires. Provides tensile strength as well as crush resistance. Suitable for vertical runs or where high pulling forces are required. Also used outdoors, direct buried, and on cable trays.
Insulation and Sheath Materials
XLPE (Cross-linked polyethylene) – a thermosetting insulation with high temperature rating (90°C continuous), excellent electrical properties, and high current rating. The modern standard for power cables.
PVC (Polyvinyl chloride) – the most common sheath material. Low cost, good flexibility, flame retardant and chemical resistant. Suitable for normal environments.
LSZH (Low Smoke Zero Halogen) – a sheath material that does not release toxic halogen gases (e.g. hydrogen chloride) and produces very low smoke during fire. Ensures visibility and breathability for evacuation. Used in high-safety locations (e.g. subways, hospitals, shopping malls).
