Products Description
Type NM-B (Non-Metallic Sheathed Cable)12/2 Building Wire is commonly used for residential wiring of luminaries, devices and appliances. Type NM-B ampacity limitation shall be in accordance with the 60ºC conductor temperature rating, as specified in the NEC. Type NM-B is rated 600-volt for both exposed and concealed work in normally dry locations. Type NM-B may be installed or fished in air voids and joints and in masonry block or tile walls where such walls are not exposed to, nor subject to, excessive moisture or dampness. Type NM-B features SuperSlick Elite® technology for easier pulling.

1. Conductor: annealed copper, comply to ASTM B3
2. Insulation: PVC, type THHN.
Color for 2 conductors: white, black;
Color for 3 conductors: white, black, red
3. Wrapping: kraft paper tape over the grounding conductor
4. Core jacket: Nylon
5. Assembly: the conductor laid parallel, with kraft paper tape wrapped.
6. Jacket: PVC, flame retardant. 90℃.

A: The cable can be installed exposed in locations such as garages, attics, and basements, but in this case, it has to strictly follow the surface of the building and be properly fastened. It should not be installed in areas where it can be damaged or subjected to physical abuse.

NM-B is rated at 600 Volts and although is is rated at a conductor temperature of 90 Degrees Celcius dry, it's ampacity is limited to 60 Degrees Celcius. It may be fished through masonry or tile walls, where not exposed or subject to excessive moisture or dampness. NM-B cables are Lead Free and RoHS compliant.
Q4: Can nm-b wire be used outdoors in conduit?
A: No, Type NM cable cannot be installed outside, regardless of the wiring method enclosing it. The installation is a damp or wet location. Reference: 334.12(B)(4) not permitted in a wet or damp location, 300.9 Raceways in Wet Locations Above Grade.
Q5: What temperature is NMB rated for?
A: The 1984 NEC required the temperature rating of Type NM Cable to be increased from 60ºC to 90ºC, to take into account the increased use of thermal insulation in dwellings. The 90ºC cable is identified as Type NM-B.
